Halitosis - Bad breath

The major cause of bad breath is gum disease and tooth decay.

Gum disease affects your gums and bone that supports teeth.  It It may be caused by inadequate tooth brushing, flossing, and lack of routine dental visits.  In this disease, the infected gums pull away from your teeth and form pockets between your teeth and gums.  These pockets fill with bacteria and pus which give off a foul odor.

Patients with bad breath need a complete dental evaluation.  If gum disease or dental decay is diagnosed, it needs to be readily treated.  With proper care, your infection can be treated and you will no longer have the embarrassment of bad breath.
